Regina Pats News Release

First Period

Early on, the Pats worked the puck along the boards in the Oil Kings' end. Their hard work and pressure drew the visitors' first minor at 12:58. Chandler Stephenson directed the puck on goal, which resulted in a mad scramble in front of the Oil Kings' goaltender Laurent Brossoit. Lane Scheidl eventually slid the puck underneath Brossoit and into the back of the net. Scheidl's powerplay goal was assisted by Morgan Klimchuk and Stephenson.

Michael St. Croix potted the visitors' first goal of the game with an even strength tally from Corbett at 8:49. The two teams traded off goals to conclude the first frame. Dylan Wruck scored first for the Oil Kings. Christoffer responded for the Pats. The first period ended with the game tied, 2-2.

Second Period

Burroughs delivered a monstrous open ice hit on Trevor Cheek to kickstart the second frame. St. Croix retaliated on the play and the Pats went on their third powerplay of the game. Oil Kings Musil received a clipping major and went to the box 46-seconds after St. Croix's minor. The Blue and White didn't cash in on their 5-on-3 opportunity, but they still had well over three minutes of powerplay time left.

Pats Carson Samoridny and the Oil Kings' Stephen Shmoorkoff went toe-to-toe in a scrap. Samoridny received the extra two minutes for instigating, which ended the Blue and White's powerplay. Burroughs cashed in while both teams were 4-on-4 to give the Pats the 3-2 lead at 15:34. Once both teams were back 5-on-5, Patrick D'Amico went to the box for kneeing, but the Pats penalty kill delivered and preserved their lead midway through the hockey game.

The Oil Kings took control of the last 10 minutes of the period and pounded 16 shots on Hewitt. Burroughs' lone tally of the frame allowed the Blue and White to enter the third period ahead by a goal.

Third Period

The Oil Kings tied the game early as St. Croix scored his second goal of the game 1:04 into the final period to even the score up 3-3. Pats Adam Brooks was called for hooking at 15:19, and the Oil Kings went ahead 4-3 less than 20-seconds into their powerplay courtesy of Corbett's point shot. At the 12:20 mark, St. Croix capped off the hattrick. His goal increased the Oil Kings' lead to two goals. Foster scored for the Oil Kings to double the Pats on the scoreboard at 8:21 of the third. The Oil Kings rolled through the rest of the game and outshot the Pats 13-5 in the final frame. The final score was 6-3 in favor of the visitors.

The Pats are back in action Friday night when they face off with the Prince Albert Raiders for the final time this season. Fans at the game will be able to take home a 2012-13 Western Pizza Team Poster as well as a limited number of SaskMilk Morgan Klimchuk Growth Charts. 2-for-1 tickets are available at the Brandt Centre Box Office.
