Hogs Come up Short in Loss to Ads

Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill. - Riding a six-game winning streak and playing in front of a sold out BMO Harris Bank Center crowd, the Rockford IceHogs came up just short to the Milwaukee Admirals and fell 3-2.

The Hogs fell into a 3-0 hole midway through the second period, which turned out to be too much for the Hogs to overcome.

The Ads opened the scoring at the 7:57 mark of the first period. Chris Mueller intercepted an errant IceHogs pass in the Rockford zone. The center then found Brad Winchester alone on the doorstep, who slipped the puck by IceHogs goaltender Henrik Karlsson, giving the Admirals the 1-0 lead.

Just 23 seconds after coming out of the penalty box, Milwaukee's Daniel Bang increased the Admirals lead to 2-0 at the 14:03 mark. With the puck located behind the net, Winchester dished the puck in front of the crease, where the winger poked the puck under Karlsson for his fifth goal of the season.

The Ads increased their lead in the second period when Patrick Cehlin streaked into the IceHogs zone and wristed a shot from the faceoff circle and past Karlsson to bring the score to 3-0.

Less than a minute later, Kyle Beach got the goal back and put the Hogs on the board. Brandon Pirri made a cross-ice pass to Beach on the doorstep, who squeaked the puck under Milwaukee's Jeremy Smith to cut into Milwaukee's advantage, 3-1, heading into the second intermission.

Rockford got to within a goal at the 13:24 mark of the final frame when Jimmy Hayes slipped in a goal under Smith on a pass from Martin St. Pierre. But Rockford was unable to muster a game-tying goal in the final 6:36 of the contest and dropped the 3-2 contest.

Karlsson finished with 21 saves, while the Hogs fired 27 shots on Smith. Both squads were unsuccessful on their five power-play opportunities, which also snapped Rockford's consecutive games with a power-play goal at six.

Next Home Game: Friday, March 15 vs. Chicago Wolves. The puck hits the ice at 7:05 p.m. as the IceHogs and Wolves go at it at the BMO Harris Bank Center in an Illinois Lottery Cup matchup. It will also be Country Night at the BMO sponsored by Frito Lay and Q98.5, where fans will be treated to live music from Back Country Roads. There will also be a mechanical bull on site for fans to ride and a contest for best-dressed cowboy/cowgirl.
