
Pirates Go Purple to Face Sharks in Portland

Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates, winners of their last 6 home games, will look to keep pace with the first place Providence Bruins when they face off against the Worcester Sharks on Saturday at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Puck drop is set for 7 for the first annual Purple Night, presented by Maine Medical Center, which will see the Pirates wear special purple jerseys to honor all cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and their families.
The Pirates are coming off a 6-3 victory against the first place Providence Bruins on Tuesday night at the Civic Center. Rookie goaltender Louis Domingue won his first career AHL start, stopping 32 of 35 shots while rookies Jordan Martinook and Chris Brown each scored twice. The Pirates scored 3 power play goals as well as a shorthanded goal in the contest. The win allowed the Pirates to temporarily tie the Bruins for first place in the Atlantic division.
The Worcester Sharks were defeated by the Providence Bruins last night by a score of 3-1. The win, which saw the Bruins score 3 third period goals, gave the Bruins a 2 point lead over the Pirates in the Atlantic Division. Worcester goaltender Alex Stalock was denied his 75th win, stopping 22 of 25 shots for the Sharks, while Marek Viedensky scored the lone Worcester goal.
Worcester was victorious in their last meeting against the Pirates, winning a 4-1 decision at the DCU Center in Worcester. Rookie goaltender Mike Lee picked up his first loss for the Pirates and was pulled after the first period, while Domingue made his AHL debut and stopped 22 of 23 shots in the final two frames. Phil Lane had the lone Pirates goal in the third period.
Tonight's game can be heard on 95.5 and 95.9 WPEI in the Portland area, 92.7FM and 100.7 FM WOXO FM in the Lewiston/Auburn area, and online on the WLOB radio player and AHL Live. The pregame show starts at 6:40 with Jeff Mannix.
