Norfolk Admirals News Release
HERSHEY, Penn. - Josh Brittain had a goal and an assist and Troy Bodie's go-ahead goal gave the Admirals a 2-1 lead early in the third period. However, the Bears scored twice in the final three minutes of regulation, as the Norfolk Admirals (25-26-3-1) fell to the Hershey Bears (27-21-3-5), 3-2, on Saturday night at Giant Center.
The Admirals saw their three-game overall winning streak and their five-game road point streak (4-0-1-0) end. Norfolk remains 7-2-1-0 in its last ten games and is still five points back of the eighth and final spot in the Eastern Conference playoff picture with 21 games remaining in the regular season. Igor Bobkov (10-16-0) stopped 24 of 27 shots in the setback.
The Admirals return to Norfolk Scope Arena for games on Wednesday vs. the Charlotte Checkers and Friday and Saturday vs. Hershey.
The Admirals took a 1-0 lead 3:20 into the contest. Brittain took the puck from the right corner and tucked a shot around the post near the left leg of Hershey goaltender Philipp Grubauer. The puck appeared to straddle the goal line before emerging on the other side of the goalmouth, and the play continued. However, at the next stoppage in play, the officials utilized the video review system and deemed that the puck did completely cross the goal line before deflecting off a Hershey stick and crossing back on the other side of the line. Brittain's eighth goal of the season made the score 1-0.
Hershey tied the game at 1-1 just 1:53 into the second period. Garrett Mitchell carried the puck on his forehand into the Norfolk zone down the left wing. He switched to his backhand near the bottom of the left circle and sent a shot over Bobkov's right shoulder to tie the game at 1-1.
Norfolk re-claimed the lead 2:32 into the third period. Brittain carried the puck into the attacking zone along the right wing and sent a shot on Grubauer. Bodie found the rebound and sent a shot past a prone Grubauer for his third goal of the 2012-13 campaign.
Hershey tied the game at 2-2 with 2:33 remaining in regulation. Ryan Stoa sent a shot from the left circle over Bobkov's right shoulder.
The Bears then went ahead with only 46 seconds remaining in regulation. Ryan Potulny found a rebound in the low slot and put it into the net for the 3-2 final score.
Philipp Grubauer (7-4-1) stopped 19 of 21 shots for the win.
Norfolk was 0-for-1 on the power play. Hershey was 0-for-3.
