
Montreal Reassigns Ian Schultz to Hamilton

HAMILTON, ONT - Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today that the Canadiens have reassigned forward Ian Schultz to the Bulldogs from the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL. The Bulldogs have also signed forward Riley Armstrong and defenceman Mark Isherwood to Professional Try-Out Contracts. As per club policy, financial terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
Schultz, 22, has played 26 games this season for the Wheeling Nailers and Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL recording six points (2 goals, 4 assists) and 72 penalty minutes. The 6'2", 216-pound forward played 105 regular season games for the Bulldogs from 2010-2012 and posted 27 points (9 goals, 18 assists) and 153 penalty minutes. The native of Calgary, Alberta played four seasons from 2006-2010 for the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League totaling 127 points (55 goals, 72 assists) a +36 rating and 405 penalty minutes in 196 regular season games. Schultz helped the Hitmen win a WHL Championship during the 2009-2010 season while recording 15 points (8 goals, 7 assists) in 23 playoff games. Schultz was acquired by the Montreal Canadiens with Lars Eller from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Jaroslav Halak on June 17th, 2010.
Armstrong, 28, has played 31 games this season for the Grizzlies and ranks third on the team in points recording 32 (15 goals, 17 assists) and 100 penalty minutes. The 5'11", 185-pound forward played 402 regular season games in the American Hockey League during various seasons from 2004-2011 and registered 167 points (86 goals, 81 assists) and 559 penalty minutes. The native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan played two games for the San Jose Sharks during the 2008-2009 season and totaled two penalty minutes.
Isherwood, 23, has played 26 games for the Grizzlies this season posting 14 points (4 goals, 10 assists) and 34 penalty minutes. The 6'0", 180-pound defenceman spent the 2011-2012 season playing for Cortina SG in Italy and notched 25 points (7 goals, 18 assists) and 32 penalty minutes in 40 regular season games while winning the Italian Championship with the team. Isherwood played 70 regular season games for the Kelly Cup Champion Alaska Aces of the ECHL in 2010-2011 recording 35 points (15 goals, 20 assists) and 61 penalty minutes, while accumulating six points (2 goals, 4 assists) in 11 playoff games. The native of Abbotsford, British Columbia played five seasons from 2005-2010 for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL registering 128 points (44 goals, 84 assists) and 353 penalty minutes in 268 regular season games.
The Bulldogs' next game is against the Heat in Abbotsford at 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15th. All 'Dogs games during the month of January will be broadcast on Hamilton's Funny 820 (AM 820), with select games simulcast on Montreal's TSN Radio 690 (AM 690). The game will also air on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio. Fans can also listen to and watch all 'Dogs games on www.hamiltonbulldogs.com. Live coverage with the broadcast team of Play-By-Play Announcer Derek Wills (all home and away games) and Colour Commentator Al Craig (all home and select away games) will begin with the Pioneer Pre-Game Show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
