Valleau Commits to Ohio State

Urbandale (IA) The Des Moines Buccaneers are proud to announce that defenseman Nolan Valleau has committed to Ohio State University following his junior hockey career.

Valleau, 20, is in his first season in the United States Hockey League after previously playing in the Junior A North American Hockey League with New Mexico and Port Huron in 2010-2011. While in the NAHL, he earned All-North Division honors and was named to the league's All-Rookie second team.

The Novi, MI native enters this weekend among the USHL leaders in defensemen goals (5) and points (15).

Ohio State University will be participating in the new Big Ten Hockey Conference next season after a long tenure in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. When he joins the Ohio State program, Valleau will be teammates with former Buccaneer Anthony Greco who is currently in his freshman season. Greco played for the Bucs from 2010-2012.

The Buccaneers are (13-11-1) and tied for fourth place in the Western Conference. Winners of seven of their last ten games, the Buccaneers are home on Friday and Saturday against the Youngstown Phantoms both nights. Friday night at a $1.50 Miller Lite Beer Night and Saturday is the annual Teddy Bear Toss promotion.

The Des Moines Buccaneers are in their 33rd consecutive season in the United States Hockey League. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
