Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

The Waterloo Black Hawks shook off resolute comebacks efforts from the Tri-City Storm to claim a 4-3 road victory in Kearney, Nebraska Friday.

The Hawks scored on their first shot of the game, when Mike Huntebrinker's chance rolled off of Johan Mattson, over the goaltender's shoulder, and into the net 22 seconds after the opening faceoff. Justin Kloos added to the lead after a Taylor Cammarata blast from the right point during a Waterloo power play at 11:16. The puck sprang back off the frame, but was knocked by Kloos back over the goal line a split-second later, leaving no doubt about whether Waterloo had converted.

Tri-City erased the advantage in the second period, with a pair of power play goals less than six minutes after coming out of the locker room. Nolan Gluchowski scored the first one on a low shot from above the right wing circle at 1:34. Then at 5:59, just after a two-man advantage had ended, Grant Opperman flipped a shot into an open side.

Jake Horton pushed the Black Hawks ahead again with a chance from a sharp angle through Mattson's pads 1:31 into the final period. Gluchowski retied the affair with his second of the night, capitalizing on a turnover at 4:48. However, Ryan Papa would not be denied, putting back the second chance from a Vince Hinostroza shot at 7:31 for the winner. Waterloo held on for the victory, ending a three-game losing streak, with 33 saves from Eamon McAdam.

The Hawks and Storm get right back together on Saturday night in Kearney. The 7:05 matchup is Waterloo's final road game before concluding the pre-Christmas schedule at home next Saturday against the Sioux City Musketeers.
