Omaha Lancers News Release
Lincoln, Neb. - Jake Randolph and Alex Rauter both scored in the shootout and Alex Lyon backstopped Omaha to its third straight victory as the Lancers earned a come-from-behind 2-1 shootout victory over the Lincoln Stars Friday evening in front of 4,109 fans at the Lincoln Ice Box. With the win, Omaha improved to 14-11 on the year and moved into sole possession of fifth place in the Western Conference with 28 standings points. The Lancers are now a perfect 6-0 in shootouts this season while the team has won 10 of its last 12 games overall.
Lincoln broke the scoreless deadlock late in the opening period after a right point shot by Paul LaDue generated a rebound on the left wing, which was promptly backhanded in by Jake Wood for his seventh goal of the season. LaDue garnered the only assist on the even strength strike netted 18:17 into the first period, which marked just the 11th time in 25 games this season that the Lancers have surrendered the game's opening goal.
The Stars maintained their 1-0 advantage through the second period despite a combined 15 shots on goal. Lyon answered the eight Lincoln shots that came his way while Stars netminder Jackson Teichroeb denied all seven Lancers shots in the period, including a flurry of Omaha chances at the close of the period as a result of a five minute charging major penalty against Lincoln's Jimmy DeVito.
Omaha evened the contest early in the final frame as with just six seconds remaining on DeVito's major penalty Tucker Poolman won a race for a loose puck at the left side of the goal before swatting in his team-leading seventh power play goal of the year. Connor Chatham and Matias Cleland assisted on the man-advantage marker netted 53 seconds into the third period.
The 1-1 tie remained through the close of regulation and overtime before both Randolph and Rauter scored in the shootout sealing Omaha's 10th one-goal victory of the season. Meanwhile, Lyon turned away three of Lincoln's four attempts improving to 4-0 in shootouts this year and 9-9 overall on the season. In addition to three shootout denials, Lyon registered 31 saves on 32 Lincoln shots through regulation and overtime. Meanwhile, Teichroeb suffered the shootout defeat for the Stars despite 17 saves on 18 Lancers shots.
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow evening when they head to the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City for a 7:05 PM showdown with the Musketeers.
