Stars Corral Rampage 5-3

Texas Stars News Release

SAN ANTONIO, TX - Colton Sceviour broke a 3-3 tie with less than six minutes left in regulation as the Texas Stars beat the San Antonio Rampage 5-3 Sunday afternoon at AT&T Center.

Jon Rheault opened the scoring with a fortuitous bounce as his shot rang off the crossbar, went up into the air and came down off the back of goaltender Cristopher Nilstorp and into the net 8:37. The Stars responded at 15:46 when Jamie Oleksiak fed Travis Morin in behind the Rampage defense and Morin did the rest, sliding a backhand shot through the legs of Dov Grumet-Morris to tie the game.

Texas came out firing in the second period and built up a sizable shots-on-goal advantage. It did not immediately pay off as instead San Antonio found the net with just its second shot of the period. Rookie Drew Shore took a quick pass from Rheault and snapped a one-timer into the roof of the net from the right faceoff dot at 7:12. The Stars struck back on the power play as Francis Wathier set up a one-timer for Matt Fraser at 13:02; it was Fraser's sixth goal of the year. Wathier was at it again 27 seconds later as he made a beautiful cross-ice pass to Brenden Dillon and the Stars defenseman hammered the puck home for his first goal of the season. The two goals were the fastest two scored by Texas this season and gave the Stars a 3-2 lead.

Most of the third period went along without much ado until Shore tied the game at 13:36. But the score did not remain tied for even a full minute. Just 46 seconds later Colton Sceviour tipped a pass from Fraser up over Grumet-Morris to regain the Texas lead 4-3. Scott Glennie then added an empty net goal at 19:22, assisted by rookie Reilly Smith as the Stars capped of a 5-3 win.

Jack Campbell, who replaced starter Cristopher Nilstorp at the beginning of the third period, finished with 13 saves on 14 shots to record his third win of the season. Nilstorp stopped 13-of-15 shots in the first two periods, but did not return for the third period. Dov Grumet-Morris made 31 saves on 35 shots and took the loss in goal for San Antonio. The Stars out-shot the Rampage 35-29 and went 1-for-4 on the power play; San Antonio was 0-for-2 on the man advantage.

The Texas Stars continue their six-game road trip on Tuesday, November 27th as they travel to Rockford for a 7:05 p.m. faceoff with the IceHogs at BMO Harris Bank Center. The Stars next home game is scheduled for Friday, December 7th as they host the Houston Aeros for a 7:30 p.m. faceoff.
