P-Bruins Fall to IceCaps
November 25, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
St. John's, NF -- The Providence Bruins fell to the St. John's IceCaps 6-0 this evening at the Mile One Centre.
The Providence Bruins got off to great start, carrying over the momentum from last night's 3-2 shootout win over the IceCaps. Much like the night before, their hard forrecheck forced turnovers and forced goaltender Eddie Pasquale to work early, making a big save on an attempt from David Warsofsky. However, the two consecutive delay of game penalties cost the Bruins. The IceCaps capitalized on the man advantage at 5:26 when Derek Meech beat Niklas Svedberg with a wrist shot from the point. Despite two power play opportunities, the Bruins couldn't find the back of the net and went into the first intermission trailing 1-0.
In an exciting, action-filled second period, both teams had quality scoring opportunities. Despite three man-advantages, including a second 5-on-3 opportunity, the Bruins couldn't beat Pasquale to even up the score. Instead halfway through the frame at 11:14, Derek Whitmore beat Svedberg top shelf at point blank range. The Bruins had multiple opportunities to cut the deficit, including two breakaway opportunities, but bad bounces kept them off the board and went into the second intermission trailing 2-0.
The IceCaps completely dominated in the third period. St. John's got on the board just 1:42 into the final frame. That goal opened the floodgates as the IceCaps scored three more unanswered goals in the third period to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Providence failed to create any offense and fell to St. John's 6-0.
Svedberg suffered the loss, blocking 31 shots, while Pasquale stopped all 40 of Providence's attempts.
The P-Bruins return to The Dunk on Friday, November 30 versus the Connecticut Whale. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. for T-Shirt Night.
