Worcester Sharks News Release
Worcester, Mass. - Bracken Kearns scored his team leading seventh goal for the Worcester Sharks (9-7-1-1, 20pts) in a 6-1 loss to the first place Syracuse Crunch (12-3-1-1, 24pts) in front of 2,563 fans at the DCU Center on Sunday afternoon.
Rookie J.T. Brown recorded a hat trick for the Crunch and Tyler Johnson added two more as the Sharks two game winning streak came to an end. Alex Stalock made 30 saves in the loss while Frazer McLaren recorded his franchise leading 51st fighting major in the first period when he dropped the gloves with Jared Nightingale of the Crunch. The Crunch improved to 9-0-0-1 on the road this season with the win.
The Crunch got on the board first at 2:14 of the first period when J.T. Brown (2nd) beat Alex Stalock glove side on a 2-on-1, making it 1-0 Syracuse. It was Brown (3rd) again less than four minutes later, when he was the beneficiary of a bad bounce that found him all alone with a wide open net, extending the Crunch lead to 2-0. The Crunch didn't stop there. Less than 30 seconds later, it was Tyler Johnson (12th) giving Syracuse a 3-0 lead with a nice shot off the post to beat Stalock. Bracken Kearns (7th) got Worcester on the board late in the first period when he tucked a rebound past Dustin Tokarski off of a shot from the point by Matt Pelech, cutting the Worcester deficit to 3-1. Frazer McLaren (4thFM) and Jared Nightingale squared off in a lengthy bout in the first period, with McLaren scoring the take down.
After Matt Pelech was assessed a five minute penalty for hitting to the head, Tyler Johnson (13th) poked in a puck that appeared to be covered by Alex Stalock, giving the Crunch a 4-1 lead. The Crunch outshot the Sharks 14-6 in the second period.
Dmitry Korobov (2nd) provided the first goal of the third period on a blast from the point on the power play, giving the Crunch a 5-1 lead. The Crunch kept the pedal to the floor. Less than four minutes later, J.T. Brown (4th) recorded his third goal of the game for a hat trick on a tip after a nice feed from Brett Connolly for a 6-1 final.
The Sharks overall record falls to 9-7-1-1 (20pts in 18gp) and 5-4-1-0 (11pts in 10gp) at the DCU Center this season.
