Albany Devils News Release

ST. JOHN'S, Newfoundland - For the fourth time in six games, the Albany Devils found themselves in a shootout. Friday at the St. John's IceCaps, the Devils lost the head-to-head round, 2-1, and the game, 4-3, at Mile One Centre. Despite the setback, Albany has secured points in five of their last six games.

The Devils had to fight back to force extra time. Trailing 2-0, they received goals by Jay Leach and Adam Henrique and when St. John's reclaimed the lead in the third period, Jacob Josefson made the score 3-3 with 2:04 remaining.

After a scoreless overtime, Mattias Tedenby and St. John's Alex Burmistrov exchanged first-round goals and Jason Jaffray secured the win in the fifth round.

During regulation, the Devils squashed their power-play woes. After going scoreless on 33-straight attempts, Henrique scored with the man advantage at 3:45 of the third. The goal was preceded by Jay Leach's first goal of the season at 11:01 of the second.

St. John's Zach Redmond scored on an odd man rush at 10:48 to make it 3-2, but Josefson responded with another power-play goal late in the third.

Albany had two goals waved off during the third period. First, Mike Hoeffel's tally was disallowed after being tripped into IceCaps netminder Mark Dekanich during the opening seconds. Later, Steve Zalewski was said to interfere with Dekanich as the puck crossed the line midway through the final frame.

The Devils outshot the IceCaps, 31-30, and went 2-for-5 on the power play. St. John's was held scoreless with the man advantage, going 0-for-3.

These two teams meet again Saturday at Mile One Centre. Puck drop is at 6 pm (EST).
