Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - Monday marked the end of the regular season in the minor leagues, but Mother Nature clearly wasn't ready to call it quits in Greenville right away. Fluor Field was home to a rain delay in the bottom of the first, but that was the only thing keeping the Greenville Drive (66-73, 32-38) from ending the season on a high note. Despite only four hits, the Drive were able to defeat the Hickory Crawdads (74-65, 38-32) by a 4-2 score.

The Drive took a lead they wouldn't give back in the bottom of the fourth against Crawdads reliever Paul Schwendel (1-2). Garin Cecchini began the inning by drawing a walk, and he promptly reached a season milestone as he swiped both second and third, his 50th and 51st stolen bases of the season.

Boss Moanaroa followed with a walk, and Henry Ramos reached on an error to bring home Cecchini and give the Drive a 2-1 lead. Drew Turocy then reached on a fielder's choice to plate another run, and after he stole second, Matt Marquis capped the inning by lining an RBI single high off the wall in left.

The stars of the afternoon were the Drive's left-handed middle relief corps. Dylan Chavez (1-2) came in for starter Jason Garcia after the rain delay and pitched brilliantly, as he fired three shutout frames while allowing two hits and striking out five. Kevin Brahney followed Chavez and his line was nearly identical. He also threw three scoreless innings, allowing three hits while collecting five strikeouts of his own.

Hickory scored their first run of the day in the first against Garcia. Drew Robinson dropped a single into center with two outs and came in to score when Trever Adams doubled to right just out of reach of a diving Turocy.

Greenville knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the third when Jose Garcia delivered a long solo homer off the condos in left field against Hickory starter Richard Alvarez.

The Crawdads scratched across one final run in the ninth against Tyler Lockwood. Adams doubled to lead things off, and later came in to score after a wild pitch with two outs.

Despite going 0-1 at the plate, Cecchini reached base three times for the Drive. Adams and Robinson each collected a pair of hits for Hickory.
