
Aberdeen Earns Eighth Consecutive Loss

ABERDEEN, MD- IronBirds racked up their season-long eighth consecutive loss last night against the Staten Island Yankees, losing 8-0. RHP David Richardson struggled early in the game while the Yankees plated three runs in the first and never looked back.
In the three hole, Yankee DH Peter O'Brien put up his ninth homerun of the season over the center field wall and brought in LF Taylor Dugas. CF Ravel Santana capped off the inning on a ground ball single from RF Exicardo Cayones to put Staten Island up 3-0.
CF Anthony Vega took two of the five hits Aberdeen put up. In the bottom of the first and third, Vega smacked a double (7) to center field, beating his season-high record by two.
Staten Island widened the gap in the top of the fourth, scoring another three runs off two doubles and a line drive. Cayones slapped an RBI double to left field and brought in 3B Matt Duran just before C Isaias Tejada hit the second RBI double and brought in 2B Jose Rosario.
The Yankees put on the final touch in the top of the eighth with their last two runs. Rosario led off with his seventh double of the season, followed by a triple from Tejada to bring in Rosario. Tejeda plated the final run on a passed ball from IronBird catcher Scott Kalush.
David Richardson (3-4, 5.25) struggled in his four innings pitched and picked up the loss for the night. Richardson allowed six hits, six runs, four walks and had six errors. Staten Island Angel Rincon (1-0, 0.00) nabbed the win, while relief pitcher Tim Flight (5.40) picked up the save.
The IronBirds look to avoid the sweep in the second game of the two-game series against the Staten Island Yankees on Thursday, August 30 at Ripken Stadium. LHP Jorge Rivera (0-2, 4.43) will toe the rubber for the Birds while RHP Gabriel Encinas (3-6, 5.40) will start for the Yankees.
