
Tri-City Earns 50th Win with 8-4 Victory

NORWICH-The Tri-City ValleyCats (50-19) scored eight runs on 16 hits to earn an 8-4 win over the Connecticut Tigers (30-38) in the opener of a two-game series at Dodd Stadium on Wednesday night.
LHP Hua-Wei Lo (2-4), RHP Eric Heckaman and LHP Alex Phillips all pitched three innings for the Tigers.
The Tigers scored two runs in the first inning against Tri-City LHP Brian Holmes (7-2). DH Carlos De Los Santos (0-4) walked and stole second base. He scored on a single by CF Jake Stewart (1-4), who stole second base and moved to third base on a throwing error by C Tyler Heineman, and scored on a sacrifice fly by 1B Juaner Aguasvivas (1-3) for a 2-0 lead.
The ValleyCats scored three runs in the second inning. 3B Jean Batista (4-5) singled and went to second base when LF Jarrod McKinney (1-4) walked.
Both men advanced into scoring position on a double steal. RF Emilio King (1-4) hit a sacrifice fly to score Batista and SS Joe Scalafani (2-5) singled home McKinney. C Tyler Heineman (2-5) doubled home Scalafani for a 3-2 lead.
The ValleyCats scored a run on a throwing error in the third inning for a 4-2 lead. King hit a solo home run over the center field wall in the fourth inning to make it 5-2 and Tri-City added a run in the fifth inning to make it 6-2.
Connecticut scored two runs in the sixth inning. Aguasvivas doubled and moved to third when 3B Edgar Corcino (0-4) reached on an error.
RF Patrick Smith (1-3) singled and 2B Jordan Dean (1-3) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Aguasvivas and Corcino and get the Tigers within two runs at 6-4.
The Tigers and ValleyCats finish their series on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. It's the final "Thirsty Thursday Happy Hour" at "The Hole in the Wall Bar" down the first base side. The gates will open an hour early at 5:00 p.m. with live music and drink specials throughout the night.
Tri-City will send RHP Juan Minaya (1-1, 4.91) to the mound while the Tigers will start RHP Tim Kelley (0-3, 4.34). Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH and online at www.cttigers.com.
The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League.
