Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
Roman Quinn's triple off the left field wall Wednesday night gave him more triples this season than any player in Williamsport short-season baseball history. It came at the beginning of a 4-3 loss to Jamestown.
Williamsport has had short-season ball clubs at Bowman Field since 1968, but Quinn's eleventh three-bagger broke Terry Joseph's 17-year old record. Williamsport has changed affiliations twice since Joseph's days as a Williamsport Cub.
The record came on a night where the offense sent just one over the minimum to the plate after the third inning and starter Manny Martinez's tough start couldn't be saved by relievers Nic Hanson and Ramon Oviedo.
Jamestown opened the scoring in the first inning, but the Cutters answered right back. After Quinn's triple, Kyle Hoppy sent a grounder up the middle to score Quinn for the tying run.
Both teams traded runs again in the second. After Larry Greene doubled to lead off the inning, Chace Numata hit a two-out single to left field to tie the game 2-2.
But Kolby Copeland scored a sloppy run for Jamestown in the third that would put the Jammers up for good. Copeland stole second off of Numata, and the catcher's throw went into center field. After a bobbly by Hoppy, his throw went well off line as Copeland gave Jamestown a 3-2 lead.
Trailing 4-2 in the eighth, Numata scored on a passed ball, but a double-play ended the game as Williamsport couldn't lock down their first three-game sweep of the season.
The Cutters start a three-game series with Batavia starting Thursday at 7:05 at Bowman Field. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
