Keys Fall to Brink of Elimination

Frederick Keys News Release
The Keys had done just about everything to stay in the thick of the Northern Division pennant chase on Wednesday night. They had overcome a three-run deficit and a Salem rally to tie the game following. And they were one strike away.
But consecutive two-out doubles tied the game at 6 and an inning later Salem's Drew Hedman ended it with a long home run to right field. The Keys 8-6 loss, coupled with Wilmington's come from behind win at home over Myrtle Beach have Frederick on the cusp of elimination. A Wilmington win and Keys loss Thursday evening would win the division for the Blue Rocks.
The Keys trailed 3-0 to the fifth inning after Salem scored three runs on five hits in the third inning. With two down in the fifth inning, DH Brenden Webb lined a double to straight away center field to score Travis Adair and the Keys were on the board.
An inning later Frederick got the big inning. With one on and one down, 1B Tyler Townsend hit a comebacker to the mound. The potential double play did not happen as the throw from pitcher Keith Couch went into center field. Frederick took the opportunity and put together three consecutive hits to score four runs in the inning leading 5-3.
Salem tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a throw error by SS Garabez Rosa. But the Keys answered as Townsend homered in the seventh inning to put the Keys on top 6-5.
The Keys look to stay alive Thursday, August 30th with Orioles first round pick in 2012 Kevin Gausman on the mound. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. on wthu.org.
The Keys return home with the inspiration for the film "Rudy", Rudy Ruettiger at Harry Grove Stadium signing autographs Saturday, September 1st at 6:00 p.m. Fireworks follow the game against Carolina. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 301-815-9939 or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
