DAVENPORT, Iowa - After letting a 6-0 lead slip away, the Kane County Cougars battled back with four runs in the ninth inning to beat the Quad Cities River Bandits, 11-10, on Friday night at Modern Woodmen Park.

Quad Cities (64-65, 29-31) starting pitcher Tyrell Jenkins only faced two batters before leaving the contest, clutching his right shoulder, which quickly drew reliever Jonathan Cornelius into the contest. Cornelius surrendered six runs on 10 hits over the next 2.2 innings as the Cougars (64-66, 30-30) marched out to a 6-0 advantage with a run in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth.

Aaron Brooks cruised into the fifth inning before coughing up four runs which allowed the River Bandits to pull within two. In the seventh, Rudy Brown yielded three more tallies which gave Quad Cities their first advantage, up 7-6. Ricky Martinez failed to keep the lead in the eighth as he walked Justin Trapp to start the frame. Trapp eventually scored on a two-out single from Dean Espy.

Nick Martini put the River Bandits back on top in the bottom of the eighth as he tripled home a pair against Jose Brazoban (1-0). Martini scored on a Casey Rasmus sac fly, putting Quad Cities up by three. In the top of the ninth, the Cougars forced home four runs off Kyle Barraclough and Heath Wyatt (4-7) with the backing of two errors by the River Bandits. Andrew Triggs (S, 3) worked a perfect bottom of the ninth to finally finish the contest.

The Cougars return to Fifth Third Bank Ballpark on Saturday when they host the Burlington Bees at 6:30 p.m. For tickets, please call (630) 232-8811 or visit www.kccougars.com.
