Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Shane Peterson went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs to lead the River Cats past the visiting Nashville Sounds by a score of 8-3 on Sunday night at Raley Field.
Nashville had all the momentum early, scoring three runs off of A's lefty Brett Anderson in the first inning. After the first inning ended, however, the River Cats scored eight runs and held the Sounds scoreless.
The River Cats tied the game in the third inning, scoring three times. After Jermaine Mitchell led off the inning with a triple, Collin Cowgill brought him home with on a ground out. Three batters later, Grant Green doubled-home Daric Barton and Anthony Recker, who had each drawn a walk earlier in the frame.
Peterson continued the scoring attack, delivering a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning, giving his team a 4-3 lead. An inning later, with the River Cats leading 5-3, Green and Peterson each homered, widening the margin to 7-3. Sacramento tacked on its eighth and final run with an RBI-single from Recker, plating Cowgill in the sixth.
The Cats offense collected 12 hits in all, led by Mitchell who finished 3-for-5. Green went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, extending his hitting streak to a team-high-tying 12 games. Recker and Barton extended their hitting streaks to nine and 11 games respectively. Peterson is now hitting .413 in 20 games with the Cats.
Anderson exited after 4.1 innings, having given up five hits, three runs and two walks with three strikeouts. Brad Peacock picked up his ninth win with four scoreless innings of relief, striking out nine.
River Cats right-handed pitcher Graham Godfrey (9-1, 3.18 ERA) will look to improve on his league-leading ERA on a Seniors Eat Free Monday presented by Cache Creek Casino Resort. He will face Nashville righty Brian Baker (2-4, 5.17 ERA) at 7:05 at Raley Field.
