Reno Aces News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa-Adam Eaton unlocked a tie ballgame in the top of the ninth inning Monday night, hitting a solo home run to right field that lifted the Reno Aces to a 2-1 victory over the Iowa Cubs at Principal Park.
For the second-straight night, runs were hard to come by at Principal Park. Reno took the game's first lead in the fourth inning on an RBI single off the bat of Ryan Budde. The Aces held that one-run edge through seven, but the Cubs would answer, tying the score in the bottom of the eighth.
In the ninth, Eaton deposited a two-out, two-strike offering into the seats in right, stretching his hitting streak to 13 games and putting the Aces ahead 2-1. In the home half of the frame, Jonathan Albaladejo retired the side in order to preserve the victory.
Making his first start since July 22, Aces starter Trevor Bauer worked six shutout innings, scattering five hits with two walks and five strikeouts in an 80-pitch effort. Out of the bullpen, Zach Kroenke (6-3) earned the win after holding the Cubs to a run over two innings of work, and Albaladejo earned his 21st save.
The loss fell to Cubs reliever Jairo Asencio (0-1), who surrendered Eaton's blast in the ninth.
At the plate for Reno, the first five batters in the order collected one hit apiece. Josh Bell doubled, while A.J. Pollock stole a base and scored a run.
The series continues on Tuesday night. RHP Joe Martinez (10-8, 5.69 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Iowa counters with RHP Ty'Relle Harris (0-2, 3.97 ERA). First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. PT at Principal Park, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM or by visiting RenoAces.com.
The Aces return to Downtown Reno on Aug. 10 to kick-off an eight-game homestand. Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
