Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers dropped their fourth straight game, as they lost to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, 10-7 on Monday evening. A crowd of 7,034 looked on as the Chasers brought the winning run to the plate with two outs in the ninth but Clint Robinson flew out to end the game. With the loss, the Chasers' magic number to clinch their second-consecutive division crown is still at 13 games.

Mitch Maier went two-for-three at the dish and drove in three. Doug Davis started for Omaha (68-49) but did not factor in to the decision after allowing five runs (four earned) through 6.0 innings. New Chaser, Juan Gutierrez (0-1) was hit with the loss after giving up five runs during his lone inning on the hill.

Adam Moore doubled in the second and was followed up by a two-run jack by Maier to give Omaha a 2-0 lead over Colorado Springs (62-55). Irving Falu tripled to lead-off the third and scurried home on an RBI groundout by Giavotella.

The Sky Sox tallied two runs in the fourth to cut the Storm Chasers' lead down to one. Omaha was not worried and extended their lead to 4-2 when Giavotella roped a double to left field that scored Derrick Robinson. Colorado Springs then scored three off of Davis in the fifth inning to put the Storm Chasers in a one-run hole at 5-4.

Omaha scratched out a run in the sixth to tie the game when a groundout by Giavotella plated Maier. Vin Mazzaro pitched a scoreless seventh for the Storm Chasers to keep the game knotted at 5-5.

The Sox exploded for five runs off of Gutierrez in the eighth with the innings biggest blow coming on two-run double by Tim Wheeler.

The Storm Chasers did make it interesting in the ninth inning as David Lough singled to lead-off the inning stole second and scored two batters later on a double by Maier. Maier's double advanced Moore to third, who had walked after Lough's single. A Derrick Robinson sacrifice fly brought home Moore to inch the Chasers within three. From there, Falu reached on an error, Giavotella flew out for the second out, while Wil Myers walked to load the bases for C. Robinson. Colorado Springs swapped out reliever Coty Woods for Jason Bergman who got Clint to fly out to end the game.
