Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Sean O'Sullivan and Jesse Chavez combined on a gem as the Las Vegas 51s defeated the Round Rock Express 4-1 in Monday night's Pacific Coast League action at The Dell Diamond. The Express (52-65) suffered only their fourth loss in the last 13 games, while the 51s (65-51) won for only the third time in their last nine games. The series is even one game apiece.
O'Sullivan (12-5) limited the Express to a run on five singles with two strikeouts and a walk over five and two-thirds innings. Chavez went the rest of the way, working three and one-third scoreless, no-hit innings with no walks and three strikeouts. The lone base-runner Chavez allowed was with two outs in the ninth when he bounced one in the dirt that hit Matt Kata. Ryan Spilborghs followed with a game-ending fly ball.
Round Rock's lone run came in the sixth when Leonys Martin led off with a single and later scored when Joey Butler beat out a potential inning-ending double play ball for an RBI fielder's choice.
Lass Vegas grabbed an early lead and never relinquished it. Mike McCoy singled on the game's second pitch and later scored on Mike McDade's one-out single. The 51s added a run in the fifth. McCoy again led off with a single, stole second and scored on an Express error. Ricardo Nanita capped the scoring in the eighth with a two-out, two-run homer. It was the lone non-single of 18 hits between the teams on the night.
Express starter Greg Reynolds (9-7) shouldered the loss; he allowed two runs on 11 hits and a walk over six and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts. Texas Rangers right-hander Mark Lowe worked a perfect ninth on rehab assignment, striking out each of the last two batters he faced.
Luis Hernandez had two of Round Rock's five hits. Martin, Butler and Spilborghs also hit safely.
Nanita was 3-for-4 for the 51s, while McCoy, McDade and Sobolewski each had two hits.
Round Rock and Las Vegas continue their four-game series Tuesday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Left-hander Chad Bell (3-4, 4.28 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express opposite 51s right-hander Shawn Hill (6-1, 4.50 ERA).
