
Barnstormers Power Past Patriots 12-7

Lancaster, PA - The Lancaster Barnstormers (12-9, 57-34) defeated the Somerset Patriots (10-12, 45-47) 12-7 Friday night from Clipper Magazine Stadium in the first game of this three game weekend series. The Patriots pitching staff surrendered a season-high 18 hits.
In the top of the first inning third baseman Corey Smith spanked a RBI single to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.
The Barnstormers responded by clubbing three home runs and batting around in the bottom of the first inning. Left fielder Blake Gailen hit a solo home run (16), designated hitter Ryan Harvey blasted a two run home run (11) and third baseman Kody Kirkland launched a two run home run (14) as the Barnstormers took a commanding 5-1 lead.
Lancaster added two more runs in the home half of the second inning as first baseman Tommy Everidge recorded a RBI single and another run scored on a ground ball double play hit by Harvey as Lancaster led Somerset 7-1.
The Patriots scratched across a run in the top of the third inning as shortstop Yunesky Sanchez hit into a double play to plate a run making the score 7-2.
Sanchez then clubbed a three run home run (4) to left field in the fifth inning to make the score 7-5.
Center fielder Adam Godwin responded in the ensuing half inning with a RBI single as the Barnstormers added to their lead making the score 8-5.
The Barnstormers scored once more in the sixth inning as Harvey notched a RBI double making the score 9-5 in favor of Lancaster.
Smith smacked a line drive home run (1) to left center field in the eighth inning to make the score 9-6.
The Barnstormers added three runs in the eighth inning on an RBI fielder's choice Kirkland and a two RBI single by second baseman Bridger Hunt making the score 12-6.
Somerset collected a run in the ninth inning as second baseman Dan DeGeorge laced a RBI single making the score 12-7 which would be the final.
Sean Green suffered his third loss of the season. J.D. Durbin earned his seventh win of the 2012 campaign. Mark Brackman earned his first save of the year.
The 2012 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Tuesday August 7th when they return home to take on the Camden Riversharks.
