(Central Islip, NY) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish 8-5 on Friday night in the first game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Both teams traded zeroes until the top of the fourth when Bridgeport's Luis Rodriguez hit a grand slam to left off Ducks starter Chris Flinn. Three more runs in following inning on a run-scoring wild pitch and a two-run single by Rodriguez increased the lead to 7-0.

The Ducks would get on the board in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI single by Ray Navarrete off Bluefish starter Paul Oseguera. Long Island tacked on three more runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Josh Johnson and Reid Gorecki and a run-scoring wild pitch to cut the deficit to 7-4. Brandon Sing's solo homer to center in the seventh made it a two-run game, but the Flock could not inch closer.

Oseguera (7-2) picked up the win, allowing only one run on five hits while striking out five in five innings of work. Flinn (0-2) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs (five earned) on six hits with and three walks in four and one-third innings. Juan Rincon earned his sixth save with a scoreless ninth.

Shawn Williams, Gorecki and Johnson paced the Ducks with two hits each at the plate.
