Lansing Lugnuts News Release
DAYTON, OH - The Lansing Lugnuts (24-15, 71-37) scored five unanswered runs to drop the Dayton Dragons (15-24, 45-64), 5-2, on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field.
Ajay Meyer pitched around an infield single in the ninth inning to record his 29th save of the year, tying 2003 closer Jason Wylie for the Lugnuts' single-season record.
Lansing centerfielder Nick Baligod scored three times and tied the franchise record with four walks in the game.
In the sixth inning, K.C. Hobson (1-for-4) knocked out Wes Mugarian with a two-out, two-run double to tie the game at 2-2.
Chris Hawkins (2-for4, 2 RBI) singled in Baligod, the go-ahead run, in the eighth off of Ryan Kemp (Loss, 1-5) to give the Lugnuts the lead for good.
The Lugnuts found themselves down early because of a pair of errors behind Lansing starter Anthony DeSclafani who pitched very well. The right-hander allowed a pair of unearned runs over six innings of work while striking out two, walking one and giving up five hits.
Ian Kadish (Win, 1-0) threw a perfect 1 2/3 out of the Lugnuts bullpen.
Big league rehabber Nick Masset started for Dayton and allowed just a Chris Hawkins single in a scoreless first inning.
Wes Mugarian, the originally scheduled starter, entered in the second frame and worked 4 2/3 innings. The righty allowed two hits and two runs, walked three and struck out seven.
The Lugnuts go for the split in the finale of this four-game series at 7:07 p.m. on Friday, August 2nd. The Lugnuts will send Michigan native Jesse Hernandez (4-4, 2.29) to the mound. Stalin Gerson (5-7, 4.16) will start for Dayton.
The Lugnuts return home to begin a seven-game homestand on Saturday, August 4th against the West Michigan Whitecaps featuring Classic Car Night and LAFCU Fireworks.
