MIDLAND, Mich. - The Great Lakes Loons, Lou E. Loon, and MidMichigan Health are inviting young athletes from around the Great Lakes Bay Region to take part in the upcoming Olympic Games Party at Dow Diamond on Saturday, August 4, at 10 a.m.

For the Fit Club Event, Dow Diamond will be transformed into an Olympic-sized coliseum full of fun competitions, both on and off the field, sure to test any athlete's endurance and precision. Some traditional events scheduled to take place are the long toss, home run derby, 100 meter dash and obstacle course; while the more modern competitions include Wii Dance and Dance Dance Revolution.

"Lou E. Loon has been training for about a month now in preparation for the event," Loons trainer Aaron Schumacher said. "He's been doing laps around the ballpark, rigorous aquatic exercise in the Tittabawassee, and weighted funky feather reps on non-game days."

While he hopes to win a few of the events himself, Lou E. Loon will also be present to encourage athletes to reach their personal bests. The event will run until noon with a medal ceremony concluding the event, which is free and open to the public. Kids do not have to be registered to participate in the games.

The Fit Club is a kids club turned "fit", designed in cooperation with MidMichigan Health to provide children of the Great Lakes Bay Region (ages 6-12) with the information, resources and tools necessary to become more active and physically fit. Kids can sign up for free to be a Fit Club member at the event or on Lou E's webpage on Loons.com. Kids can also sign up at any Loons home game by stopping by guest services (located on the first base side of the concourse) and asking for a Lou E's Fit Club sign-up packet. Members can purchase Lou E's Activity Watch for $15 at the event or by visiting Dow Diamond during normal business hours.
