Lake County Completes Sweep of Dragons

Eastlake, Ohio-Starting pitcher Danny Jimenez tossed five no-hit innings and the Lake County Captains utilized three big innings on the way to an 11-2 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Monday night. The Captains earned a sweep of the three-game series as the Dragons ended their six-game road trip with a 2-4 record.

Lake County broke open a 4-2 game with four runs in the seventh inning and added three more in the eighth to close out the scoring. The Captains got the scoring started with three runs in the fourth to lead 3-0. Alex Lavisky's two-run homer opened the scoring.

Dragons starting pitcher Jacob Johnson (1-4) worked six innings, allowing eight hits and four runs (two earned) with no walks and three strikeouts to suffer the loss. Johnson was the victim of several defensive miscues that led directly to three runs. Cole Green replaced Johnson and struggled to throw strikes in the seventh. He faced four batters, allowing two walks, a hit batsman, and a single. He was charged with four runs (three earned). El'Hajj Muhammad worked one inning, allowing a hit and no runs with three strikeouts. Lucas O'Rear pitched the final inning, giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout.

Joe Terry belted a solo home run for the Dragons in the top of the sixth inning to give the Dragons their first hit of the night and cut the deficit to 4-2 before Lake County answered with four in the bottom of the inning. The Dragons finished with just four hits. Yorman Rodriguez had a double to extend his hitting streak to five straight games. Kyle Waldrop and Nick O'Shea each had singles.

The Dragons (13-23) return home to Fifth Third Field to begin a four-game series against the Lansing Lugnuts on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. (WONE 980 AM). James Allen (7-3, 3.43) will start for Dayton against Lansing's Noah Syndergaard (7-3, 2.90). Robert Stephenson is scheduled to pitch Wednesday for the Dragons with Wes Mugarian throwing Thursday and Stalin Gerson on Friday.
