Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Bowling Green, KY - Behind Ryan Carpenter's eight impressive innings on Monday night, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (23-13, 61-45) secured a three-game series sweep over the West Michigan Whitecaps (18-18, 54-52), winning 3-1 at Bowling Green Ballpark. Carpenter started the ninth and left two base runners on for Justin Woodall, who used a clutch double play to save the game. Josh Sale hit his first home run since June 10 to improve the Hot Rods to 16-6 in their last 22 contests.

Woodall allowed one of those inherited runners to score in the top of the ninth, breaking Ryan Carpenter's stretch of not allowing an earned run at home at 37 innings. With runners at first and second in a 3-0 game with one out, Aaron Westlake lifted a single to left field to drive in the first Whitecaps run. After walking a man with one away, Woodall induced a 5-4-3 double play off the bat of Jason King to end the game. The clutch ninth inning secured Woodall's fourth save of the season.

Thanks to two early runs and a late insurance tally, Carpenter won for the seventh time at home this season. The Whitecaps managed just four hits off of Carpenter, including three doubles. The lefty was able to work around the extra-base knocks and is now 7-0 with a 0.64 ERA in ten home starts this season. Carpenter has never allowed more than two runs in an outing at home this season.

The Hot Rods offense was paced by three two-out RBI's on Monday night. Jeff Malm singled home Drew Vettleson in the first, and Sale then smashed a ball off of the scoreboard in right field for a two-out solo home run to give the Hot Rods a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Juniel Querecuto legged out an infield single with two outs to give Bowling Green a 3-0 advantage.

With the three-game series versus the Whitecaps in the rear-view mirror, the Hot Rods welcome the Great Lakes Loons to Bowling Green Ballpark for a four-game set that starts Tuesday at 7:05 PM. In game one against the Future Dodgers, the Hot Rods will give the start to RHP Parker Markel (6-5, 4.68), while Great Lakes will counter with RHP Duke von Schamann (2-1, 2.06).
