Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs dropped the rubber match of the three-game series 5-3 to the Beloit Snappers Monday night at Peoria Chiefs Stadium. The loss puts the Chiefs at 15-21 in the second half and 50-55 on the season.
After Joe Zeller avoided a first and third jam in the top of the first, the Chiefs were quick to score. Zeke DeVoss took a 2-1 Jason Wheeler offering deep into the left field palm trees to grab 1-0 lead with his fourth homer of the season.
The Snappers responded in the top of the fourth. Zeller retired the first two batters of the inning before Matthew Koch singled to left. Stephen Wickens stepped up and drove a ball into the left field berm for a homer, giving Beloit a 2-1 advantage.
Peoria had a chance to knot the game in the bottom of the fourth. Dustin Geiger started the inning with a double to left field and with one out, Chadd Krist and Wes Darvill walked to load the bases. Yaniel Cabezas was out on an infield fly and Wheeler got Bijan Rademacher to look at strike three to end the inning with the Snappers leading 2-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Chiefs came through against Dallas Gallant. Bijan Rademacher tripled on a fly ball to right and tied the score at two after DeVoss singled. With Chen at bat, DeVoss stole second base and advanced to third on an error by Jairo Rodriguez. Chen singled on a ground ball to right to bring home DeVoss and give the Chiefs the lead 3-2.
Beloit answered quickly in the top of the eight against Sheldon McDonald. AJ Petterson doubled on a fly ball to left and Nate Roberts bunted him to third and Roberts reached on the fielders choice. The Snappers tied the score at three when Petterson scored on an error by DeVoss on a ground ball hit by Wang-Wei Lin. Austin Reed entered in relief and was greeted by a single off the bat of Miguel Sano which scored Roberts to give the Snappers a 4-3 lead. Drew Leachman bunted Lin to third and Sano to second and Reed intentionally walked Kennys Vargas to load the bases. Koch hit a sacrifce fly to right to bring home Lin and Beloit led 5-3.
