South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

Ryan Court broke a 9-9 tie in the eighth inning with a two-run home run to right-center field, lifting the Silver Hawks (48-49, 13-14) to an 11-9 triumph against the Burlington Bees in front of a season-best 6,461 fans at Coveleski Stadium. With a win, the Silver Hawks salvage a game in the three-game series.

Court went 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs to pace the Silver Hawks, who generated a season-high 18 hits in the game. Raul Navarro tallied three hits while Chris Ellison, Matt Helm, Kerry Jenkins and Eric Groff each mustered two hits.

Kaleb Fleck (2-0) earned the win for South Bend, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings. Fleck entered in the eighth inning and surrendered a game-tying RBI single to Wade Kirkland, but the run was charged to Matt Sample, who allowed six earned runs on six hits over 1.2 innings. Fleck recorded the final three outs in the ninth inning to preserve the win.

Right-hander Raul Alcantara (6-9) took the loss for Burlington. Alcantara allowed a two-out single to Navarro in the ninth inning and gave way to Jose Macias who surrendered the two-run home run from Court.

Tyler Green started for South Bend and did not factor in the decision, allowing three earned runs on eight hits over six innings. Green departed with the Silver Hawks leading 8-3, but rallied to erase the deficit with three in the seventh and three more in the eighth.

The Silver Hawks were lethal with two outs in the game. Court's home runs in the third and eighth innings came with two outs. Helm added a two-out, two-RBI double in the fifth inning while Ellison slashed a two-RBI triple with two outs in the sixth inning. In total, the Silver Hawks knocked in 10 runs in two-out situations.

Court's multi-home run game is the first from a Silver Hawks player this season. South Bend registered its highest hit total since a 17-hit outburst against Cedar Rapids on April 26.

The Silver Hawks begin a three-game series Saturday with the Peoria Chiefs. Right-hander Jesse Darrah (5-5, 4.66) starts for South Bend and he will be opposed by Peoria's Zach Cates (0-2, 3.50). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. EST. Tickets are available for purchase by calling 235-9988 or online at www.silverhawks.com .
