West Sacramento, Calif. - Dan Straily struck out 13 batters and allowed just one hit and two walks in seven innings, but suffered his second loss as the River Cats fell to the Las Vegas 51s by a score of 1-0 on Friday Night at Raley Field.

Straily, who now has 154 strikeouts this season to lead all of professional baseball, began his night by striking out the side in the top of the first inning. He carried a no-hitter into the fifth, when Eric Thames connected on leadoff solo home run to right-center field, giving his team a 1-0 lead. Straily responded by retiring the next nine batters in order. In his seven innings, Straily faced only two batters more than the minimum.

The River Cats collected a total of six hits, including a 2-for-4 performance from Kila Ka'aihue, but were unable to put a run on the board for the fourth time this season. Sacramento threatened in the bottom of the ninth when Michael Taylor singled through the hole at shortstop with two outs, but the next batter, Adam Rosales, flew out to deep center field, ending the comeback attempt.

Chris Ray struck out one and walked one in his first appearance with the River Cats since being signed by Oakland. Erick Threets gave up a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning.

Straily set a River Cats season-high with his 13 strikeouts while the River Cats tied their team-season-high with 14 strikeouts. They last combined to strike out 14 batters six days ago, on July 7 in Fresno.

The loss brings the River Cats record to 55-38 on the year and they now hold a 2.5 game lead over Las Vegas for first place in the PCL South Division.

The two teams return to Raley Field at 7:05 on a Sutter Health Postgame Fireworks Saturday, immediately following the Hot Rods and Cool Cats block party on Ballpark Drive. River Cats righty Bruce Billings (4-3, 3.56 ERA) will start opposite 51s right-handed starter Joel Carreno (2-4, 9.73 ERA).
