Chris Carpenter Scheduled to Make Rehab Start with Sea Dogs

Portland, Maine- Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Chris Carpenter will join the Portland Sea Dogs on a Major League rehab assignment. Carpenter is expected to start game one of a doubleheader on Friday, July 13th at 6:00 PM when the Sea Dogs take on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays) at Hadlock Field. Carpenter will wear uniform # 38.

Carpenter was acquired by the Boston Red Sox from the Chicago Cubs as part of the compensation package for Theo Epstein's departure. Carpenter has been sidelined the entire season recovering from surgery to remove a bone spur in his elbow. He has made four rehab starts; two with the Gulf Coast League Red Sox and two with the Greenville Drive (Low-A).

The 26 year-old made his Major League debut with the Chicago Cubs in 2011 where he posted a 2.79 ERA (3 ER/ 9.2 IP) with a 0-0 record in ten appearances out of the bullpen. He was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the third round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.

Entering the 2012 season he had appeared in 96 Minor League games compiling a 21-19 record with a 3.62 ERA. In 2010 and 2011 he was named an Arizona Fall League Rising Star.
