
Mainer Mike Macdonald Joins Sea Dogs

Portland, Maine- The Boston Red Sox have signed right-handed pitcher and Camden, Maine native Mike MacDonald and assigned him to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs. MacDonald will be the first Maine native to play for the Sea Dogs. MacDonald will wear uniform # 43 and is scheduled to start Sunday afternoon against the Trenton Thunder (Yankees) at 1:05 PM from Waterfront Park in Trenton, New Jersey.
Additionally, Sea Dogs' infielder Reynaldo Rodriguez has been activated off of the disabled list. The Sea Dogs roster now stands at the Eastern League maximum of 25 players. MacDonald had been playing independent league ball with the Somerset Patriots (Bridgewater, NJ) of the Atlantic League. In 13 games with the Patriots MacDonald notched a 3-4 record with a 3.60 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 70 innings.
The former University of Maine student athlete was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 15th round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft. The 30 year-old has nine seasons of minor league baseball experience. He has pitched in the Blue Jays, Angels, and Giants' organizations and has reached as high as Triple-A. MacDonald has appeared in 220 games with a 58-59 record and a 4.52 ERA.
In 19 seasons of play in Portland, MacDonald is the first Maine native player to don the Portland Sea Dogs uniform. The only other Maine native to wear the Sea Dogs uniform was Sea Dogs hitting coach Kenny Joyce in 1996. Additionally, MacDonald will be the third University of Maine Black Bear to play for the Sea Dogs in franchise history joining Pete Fisher (2005) and Rusty Tucker (2006).
