Five-Run Fifth Inning Keeps Hot Rods Rolling

June 9, 2012 - Midwest League (MWL) Bowling Green Hot Rods

Dayton, OH - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (34-28) used a five-run fifth inning to pace themselves to a 8-1 win over the Dayton Dragons (25-27) on Saturday night at Fifth Third Field. The team's third straight win keeps the Hot Rods in a two-game lead over the South Bend Silver Hawks for the final playoff spot in the Midwest League's Eastern Division.

After the Dragons scored the game's first run in the second inning, the Hot Rods erupted for five runs in the top of the fifth. All five of the tallies occurred as two-out RBI-singles. Todd Glaesmann, Drew Vettleson, Cameron Seitzer, and Joel Caminero all contributed with the clutch, run-scoring plays in the inning.

Hot Rods starter Felipe Rivero was able to use the cushion to his advantage as he allowed just one run on three hits in six innings to earn his sixth win of the season. Reliever Andrew Bellatti hurled the final three innings to lock down his fourth save of the season. Bowling Green's offense tacked on three more late runs to solidify the team's 34th win of the season.

Bowling Green continues the three-game set with Dayton on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM CDT for the middle game of the series. The Hot Rods will send RHP Parker Markel (1-3, 6.39) to the mound to oppose the Dragons' RHP Radhames Quezada (3-6, 4.06). Tune in to the game on 1340-AM "The Ticket" and online at 1340wbgn.com. The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst begins at 12:40 PM CDT.
