
Peoria sweeps Kernels, 4-2

PEORIA, IL - The Kernels dropped a 4-2 decision at Peoria on Friday night as the Chiefs swept the three game series at Peoria Chiefs Stadium. The Kernels took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning when Frazier Hall roped his 6th home run of the season over the wall in right field.
Peoria scored twice to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Pin-Chieh Chen's RBI double plated Oliver Zapata to tie the game. Anthony Giansanti's RBI single brought Zeke DeVoss home, giving the Chiefs the lead.
The Kernels tied the game 2-2 in the 4th inning. Zach Borenstein doubled off the wall in right to begin the inning and went to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Chevy Clarke. Borenstein scored when Wendell Soto grounded to first baseman Paul Hoilman. Hoilman booted the ball, allowing Soto to reach first base. Soto was credited with his 18th run batted in on the season.
Peoria scored a pair of runs in the 6th inning, taking a 4-2 advantage. Wes Darvill's RBI triple scored Paul Hoilman, and Darvill scored on a wild pitch by Kernels starter Jairo Diaz.
Diaz (2-6) took the loss in 5.2 innings on the mound. He allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking two. Aaron Meade pitched 1.1 innings in relief, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out three. Ty Kelley pitched one inning and allowed no runs on no hits.
Jose Rosario (5-5) was the victor for the Chiefs. He allowed two runs on five hits over six innings of work. Rosario struck out four and walked one. Sheldon McDonald pitched two scoreless innings in relief as he struck out three. Yao-Lin-Wang recorded his 7th save as he pitched the 9th inning while striking out two.
The Kernels now return home for six games! The three game series vs. Clinton begins on Saturday evening at 6:35 p.m. Fireworks follow the ballgame!
