Sacramento River Cats News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - Graham Godfrey continued his masterful 2012 season, spinning six shutout innings Tuesday and leading Sacramento to an 8-1 win and a series victory over Tacoma at Cheney Stadium.
Godfrey (4-0) lowered his earned run average to 1.03 on the season after surrendering just three hits and no runs in six innings of work. He struck out a team-season-high nine batters and walked two, while throwing 61 of his 97 pitches for strikes. Dating back to the end of the 2010 season, Godfrey has won 19 of his last 22 Triple-A decisions.
Daric Barton provided all the offense the River Cats would need with a three-run homer in the top of the first. Brandon Moss added his 15th long ball in the eighth, while Jermaine Mitchell went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
Travis Banwart-appearing in relief for the first time since June 20, 2011-picked up the save after striking out four batters in three innings of work.
Jeff Marquez (4-6) was tagged with the loss for the Rainiers, giving up six earned runs in five innings of work
Michael Taylor tied a season high by hitting safely in his sixth-straight game, including his fourth-consecutive multi-hit game. Taylor went 9-for-16 (.563) in the four-game series at Tacoma.
The River Cats will enjoy an off day Wednesday before opening a four-game series at Colorado Springs on Thursday. In the series opener, Sacramento's RHP Brad Peacock (6-3, 4.81 ERA) will face Sky Sox RHP Tyler Chatwood (0-2, 6.41 ERA). Game time is set for 6:05 p.m. PT from Security Service Field.
Sacramento returns home on Thursday, June 14, for an eight-game homestand against Tacoma and Fresno. The homestand opener is set for 7:05 p.m. at Raley Field, and is a Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday featuring a Salute to the Red, White & Blue presented by the U.S. Army.
