Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
The Tucson Padres used a nine-run fourth inning to defeat the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 9-5 on Tuesday evening in front of 5,835 fans at Security Service Field. The win earned a series split for the Padres after they lost the first two games of the series.
In that fourth, the Padres had just four hits but also took advantage of five walks as they pushed across all their runs on the night. Outside of the fourth, Tucson had just three hits and never got a batter past second base. Heading into the inning, Sox starter Rob Scahill (3-7) had faced just one over the minimum with five strikeouts before the first five batters reached against him. Three of them were walks and one was a three-run homer by catcher Yasmani Grandal. Kennil Gomez relieved Scahill but allowed two more walks and two more hits with the final one being a grand slam by second baseman Jedd Gyorko.
Before the big inning for Tucson, the Sky Sox had jumped out to a 4-0 lead. They scored a run in the second on a RBI double by shortstop Tommy Field and then scored three more in the third. Chad Tracy extended his hitting-streak to seven games with a RBI single in the inning, Brandon Wood had a sac fly and Scahill knocked in a run with a single up the middle. The Sox rounded out their scoring in the seventh on a Wood RBI single.
Colt Hynes (2-6) picked up the win for the Padres after working five innings and giving up four runs, three earned, on eight hits and one walk while striking out two.
Tomorrow is an off day for the Sky Sox before they welcome the Sacramento RiverCats to town on Thursday for a four-game series. Game one will feature RH Tyler Chatwood (0-2, 6.41) for the Sox versus RH Brad Peacock (6-3, 4.81). Game time is set for 7:05 PM MDT.
