Reno Aces News Release
LAS VEGAS, Nev.-Ryan Wheeler drove in his league-leading 56th run, and Patrick Corbin allowed just one run over seven innings Tuesday night, as the Reno Aces upended the Las Vegas 51s, 8-1, in the series finale at Cashman Field.
The Aces scored a run in the first, and Las Vegas answered with one of their own in the frame to tie the score. As it would turn out, though, that was all the offense the 51s would muster on the evening. Reno pushed across four runs in the second inning and never trailed, sealing a series victory and tying the 2012 chapter of the Silver State Diamond Challenge at four games apiece.
Corbin (2-1) delivered a quality start in his most productive Triple-A outing of the season, scattering a run on six hits with six strikeouts and just one walk over seven innings. After his exit, Takashi Saito worked a scoreless eighth inning in the first appearance of his Major League Rehabilitation Assignment. Chris Jakubauskas recorded the final three outs in the ninth-his first outing since being reinstated from the Disabled List.
The loss fell to 51s starter Scott Richmond (5-4), who surrendered six runs-five earned-on 10 hits over four innings of work.
At the dish for Reno, Wheeler collected three hits and a run scored, while driving in run No. 56 of the season in the second on a single to right-center. All nine batters in the Reno lineup registered a hit, and the first six batters in the order drove in a run.
After an enjoying an off-day on Wednesday, the Aces get back at it on Thursday, kicking-off a four-game series against the Tucson Padres at Kino Stadium. In the opener, RHP Barry Enright (4-3, 4.82 ERA) toes the slab for Reno, while RHP Bear Bay (0-2, 7.23 ERA) gets the nod for Tucson. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM or by visiting RenoAces.com.
Reno returns home on Thursday, June 14. Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
