Sacramento River Cats News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - The River Cats used an eight-run sixth inning to flip a 3-1 deficit into a 9-3 lead, and coasted to a 13-4 win over the Tacoma Rainiers Monday night at Cheney Stadium.
In their big sixth inning, the Cats sent 13 men to the plate, capitalizing on five Tacoma walks. Four singles and a Brandon Hicks three-run double helped the River Cats to their biggest offensive inning of the 2012 season, breaking their previous high of seven runs, which came back on April 10 in Tucson.
Tyson Ross (1-1) benefitted from the offensive outburst, picking up his first Triple-A win of the season. Ross-recently optioned by Oakland-went seven innings for the Cats, allowing two earned runs. Ross struck out one and walked one, while inducing 14 ground ball outs in the game.
Anthony Vasquez (5-4) was tagged with the loss for Tacoma, surrendering six earned runs in 5.2 innings pitched.
Five different River Cat hitters finished with at least two hits Monday, led by Grant Green's 4-for-5, five-RBI night, including his seventh home run of the season. Jermaine Mitchell and Michael Taylor each went 2-for-5, and Derek Norris had a pair of hits as well.
The series concludes Tuesday morning, with Cats right-hander Graham Godfrey (3-0, 1.19 ERA) scheduled to toe the slab against Tacoma righty Jeff Marquez (4-5, 6.22 ERA). First pitch is slated 11:35 a.m. PT from Cheney Stadium.
Sacramento returns home on Thursday, June 14, for an eight-game homestand against Tacoma and Fresno. The homestand opener is set for 7:05 p.m. at Raley Field, and is a Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday featuring a Salute to the Red, White & Blue presented by the U.S. Army.
