Tucson Padres News Release

Tacoma scored nine early runs and held on to beat the Tucson Padres, 13-6 Friday. It was the second consecutive loss for the Padres, who dropped to 17-31 on the season. Down by eleven runs, Tucson mounted the beginnings of a comeback attempt in the fifth inning, scoring four times and leaving the bases loaded. The four fifth inning runs would be the final runs of the game, as neither team scored after the fifth in the slugfest.

Tucson starter Tom Layne walked three of the first four Rainiers of the game, and later allowed a two-run single by Carlos Truinfel. Casper Wells and Vinnie Catricalla added RBI doubles in the first inning rally. Tacoma's second inning rally came by way of the longball, with both Carlos Peguero and Wells launching two-run home runs. Wells went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a walk on the day he was optioned to Tacoma by the Seattle Mariners.

The Padres had multiple bright spots in the loss. Nick Vincent and Josh Spence pitched two scoreless innings of relief each, with Vincent striking out four in his outing. Logan Forsythe continues to spark the Padres offense on his Major League injury rehab assignment, going 3-for-5 Friday. Forsythe now has a .361 batting average in 10 games with Tucson.
