Akron RubberDucks News Release

AKRON, OH - The Cleveland Indians announced Friday that Akron Aeros outfielder Jared Goedert has been promoted to the Triple-A Columbus Clippers. In a corresponding move, outfielder Ben Copeland has been sent to the Aeros from Columbus, and will be in uniform tonight when the Aeros host Richmond at Canal Park. The Indians also announced that RHP Steven Wright has been placed on the disabled list.

Goedert, 26, is currently hitting .395 with five homers and 17 RBI's. He is leading the Eastern League in hitting and on-base percentage (.476). In his most recent two games for Akron, both on the road at Erie, he was 4-4, with two home runs on Tuesday, and 3-4, with a triple, on Wednesday. He has reached base via a hit or walk in all 35 games he has played this season. He has crafted hitting streaks of 11 and eight games during the season so far.

A seventh-year pro, Goedert has hit 88 career home runs, and driven in 360 runs. This will mark his third season at the AAA level, having also appeared for the Clippers in 2010 and 2011. He is a career .266 hitter at AAA, with 35 home runs and 90 RBI's.

Copeland, 28, began the season with the Aeros, hitting .136 with no homers and three RBI's in 15 games. He was promoted to the Clippers on May 4th, and appeared in 10 games, hitting .242, with two home runs and three RBI's. Both of his homers came on May 12th, at Pawtucket. Copeland is a career .277 hitter in the minor leagues.

Wright, 27, suffered a broken toe on his left foot when he was struck by a line drive off the bat of Harrisburg's Chris Rahl on May 11th. He has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to May 15th. Wright has been one of the Aeros key starters this season, going 3-2, with a 1.87 ERA in seven starts. A purveyor of the knuckleball, he leads the Aeros in strikeouts with 38. Wright tossed a nine-inning, complete-game shutout at Bowie, on May 6th, the first such performance by an Aeros pitcher since 2009. He will be eligible to come off the DL on May 22nd.

The Aeros roster now stands at 24 players.

The Aeros will begin a brief, three-game, weekend homestand against Richmond Friday night at 7:05. Hall-of-Fame themed fireworks will follow Friday night's game. All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at 330-253-5151.
