
Vettleson Has Big Day, Hot Rods Lose Late Lead

Bowling Green, KY - Drew Vettleson's three hits were not enough to get his team past the Lake County Captains (13-18), who beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods (17-15) 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Bowling Green Ballpark. In the finale of the four-game series, the Hot Rods had a late 3-1 lead, but the Captains struck for three runs in the top of the eighth inning. Jeff Malm, Jake Hager, and Joel Caminero also had two-hit days for the Hot Rods in the defeat, which just the sixth in 16 games so far in 2012 at Bowling Green Ballpark.
For the fourth time in as many games in this series, the Hot Rods scored the game's first run. Jake Hager began the Hot Rods day at the plate with a single to center field and was advanced to second on a balk by Lake County starter Elvis Araujo. The next batter was Juniel Querecuto, who promptly doubled down the line in right field to give Bowling Green a 1-0 advantage.
After the Captains tied the score in the third, the Hot Rods scored the game's next two runs. Team RBI-leader Todd Glaesmann brought in a run in the bottom of fifth on a sacrifice fly. Then, in the seventh, Jeff Malm tripled home Vettleson, and the Hot Rods led 3-1 going to the top of the eighth.
The eighth proved to be the decisive frame as the Captains struck for three runs to take the lead in their eventual victory over the Hot Rods. Lake County, who brought ten men to the plate in the fifth on Sunday, used nine batters to slug three doubles, erupting to tie the score and take the lead. In the four-game split, the Captains used two innings, the fifth on Sunday and the eighth on Tuesday, to score eight of their ten runs in the series.
With the four-game series with Lake County behind them, the Hot Rods embark on a three-game series and road trip to Lansing, Michigan. The first game of the three-game series is Wednesday night at 6:05 PM CDT, and the Hot Rods will give the start to RHP Trevor Shull (0-0, 4.50). The Lugnuts will counter with RHP Marcus Walden (1-1, 3.04).
