DAVENPORT, Iowa (MAY 8, 2012) - A five-run fifth inning was the difference between Quad Cities and Peoria Tuesday night, as a promising start got away from River Bandits left-hander Jonathan Cornelius in a 7-2 loss in front of 1,407 fans at the finale of a four-game series at Modern Woodmen Park.

Cornelius (0-1) struck out five batters through the first three innings of his debut for Quad Cities (17-15), but he couldn't get an out in the fourth against the Chiefs (13-19).

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Peoria scored five runs - capitalizing on two walks, an error by first baseman Roberto De La Cruz, three singles and a double. Chiefs first baseman Ryan Cuneo laced a double to score catcher Rafael Lopez, who led off the inning with a walk. A walk to right fielder Oliver Zapata and a bunt single by second baseman Brad Zapenas loaded the bases. De La Cruz then bobbled a ground ball with the bases loaded, allowing Cuneo to score the go-ahead run. Left fielder Pin-Chieh Chen advanced all runners, including the Chiefs' third run, with a bloop single to shallow center field. With a 3-1 deficit, the River Bandits put in left-hander Danny Miranda, who allowed a run on an infield single to center fielder Taiwan Easterling and another run on a ground ball by designated hitter Paul Hoilman. Cornelius was charged with all five runs on five hits and three walks.

The Chiefs added two runs in the fifth against Miranda on a single to center by Easterling. The Chiefs center fielder finished the day 2-for-6 with three RBI.

In the bottom of the fifth, De La Cruz hit a solo home run - his second home run of the year - to make it 7-2, but the River Bandits managed only one hit the rest of the game.

Quad Cities had scored first for the fourth straight game on a first-inning RBI single by left fielder Anthony Garcia, who was 3-for-5. Right-hander Jose Rosario (2-3) allowed 10 River Bandits hits but also struck out five batters and did not walk any in five innings.

Right-handers Kevin Jacob and Robert Stock both threw two shutout innings apiece out of the Quad Cities bullpen, while right-handers Luis Liria and Charles Thomas matched them for Peoria.

In the eighth inning against Stock, Chiefs designated hitter Paul Hoilman singled to right field, extending his hitting streak to 21 games, which matched the franchise record and set the 2012 season high in professional baseball.

After two straight losses and a four-game split with Peoria, the River Bandits sit in third place in the Midwest League Western Division, three games behind Wisconsin. They will meet the Timber Rattlers for the first time this season on a three-game trip to Appleton beginning Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. Left-hander Kyle Hald (0-2) will oppose Wisconsin right-hander Chad Thompson (1-0) in the opener.
