Snappers Lose to Dragons, 7-3

Beloit, WI- The Beloit Snappers fell behind early Saturday afternoon, and weren't able to come back from the deficit, falling 7-3.

Dayton struck for seven runs in the top of the second. Snappers' starter, Steven Gruver gave up six hits and seven runs in his one and two-thirds innings. Dayton's Sean Buckley homered on a fly ball to left field scoring three runs, followed by singles from Junior Arias and Yovan Gonzalez. Jefry Sierra reached on a fielding error, Gruver walked Brandon Dailey, scoring Arias. Silva singled for the second time of the inning, scoring two more for the Dragons.

The Snappers answered in the bottom of the second when Eddie Rosario reached on a fielding error to lead off the inning. Danny Ortiz walked and Rory Rhodes grounded out to score Rosario. Catcher, Matt Koch doubled scoring Rhodes, J.D. Williams' base hit scored Koch. The Snappers attack brought the score to 7-3 Dayton to end the inning.

Strong pitching efforts by Dayton kept the Snappers from scoring any more runs the rest of the game. Dragons' starter, Daniel Tuttle went five and two thirds innings, allowing five hits, three runs, zero earned runs, one walk, with five strikeouts. Dayton's bullpen then took over the game, not allowing a single hit in their combined three and a third innings.

The Snappers bullpen turned in a solid effort tonight, not allowing a single run in their combined seven and a third innings. Reliever, A.J. Achter pitched four and a third innings, allowing three hits, one walk, with three strikeouts. Nelvin Fuentes went two innings, allowing one hit, no walks, and recorded three strikeouts. Ryan O'Rourke closed the game in the ninth, allowing one hit.

Tuttle took home the win for the Dragons, while Gruver took the lose. The Snappers continue their series with the Dayton Dragons tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm.
