Late Rally Lifts Memphis Past Omaha

Memphis, TN - Matt Adams belted the tie-breaking two-run home run to finish off a four-run eighth inning uprising that carried Memphis past Omaha, 5-4, Friday afternoon at AutoZone Park. The Storm Chasers dropped to 16-6 after their five-game win streak was brought to a halt in their first loss this season when leading after seven innings.
Francisely Bueno retired the side in order in the seventh inning in relief of starter Vin Mazzaro but ran into trouble in the decisive eighth. He issued a walk to Jermaine Curtis and hit Mitch Canham to open the frame before both runners advanced on a wild pitch. The southpaw bounced back to retire Adron Chambers on a pop up and was replaced by Jeremy Jeffress, who struck out Ryan Jackson and appeared poised to squash the rally.
However, Allen Craig got the game tied at three with a single that plated Curtis and Canham and then scored when Adams followed with an opposite field shot to left-center field, his first hit in nine at-bats in the series.
Jamie Romak started the ninth against Eduardo Sanchez with a single, sped to third on an Anthony Seratelli base hit, his fourth of the day, and scored on a Derrick Robinson fly ball to trim the margin to 5-4. Tony Abreu then singled with two outs but Clint Robinson struck out to end the game as Sanchez earned his fourth save of the year.
Max Ramirez singled with one out in the second, advanced to third on a David Lough single and came home after an errant throw by Canham, the Memphis catcher, on a Lough stolen base to give the visitors the early lead. The Redbirds tied the score in the third on Jackson's sacrifice fly before Abreu's two-out, two-run single plated Seratelli and Johnny Giavotella to put the Chasers back on top, 3-1, in the fifth.
Mazzaro yielded a lone run on only three hits while walking three and striking out three but is still searching for his first decision of the season after five turns.
