Des Moines, IA - The Iowa Cubs activated right-handed pitcher Rodrigo Lopez today.

Lopez was designated for assignment by the Chicago Cubs on Monday, and accepted his assignment to Iowa after clearing waivers.

The 36-year-old veteran made the Cubs Opening Day roster as non-roster invitee to spring training and was 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA (4 ER/6.1 IP) in four relief outings with the club this season.

The Cubs originally acquired Lopez from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for LHP Ryan Buchter on May 26, 2011.

He posted a 6-6 record with a 4.42 ERA (48 ER/97.2 IP), 29 walks and fanned 54 batters in 26 games (16 starts) with the Cubs last season.
