Tonight's Game-- The RedHawks look for a third straight win after dropping the first three games of the homestand. Following the game, there will be fireworks presented by Oklahoma Relay.
Last Night-- The RedHawks scored eight runs in the third inning and cruised to an 11-5 win over the Express. The Express opened the scoring in the first inning when Luis Hernandez belted a solo home run for a 1-0 lead. After the RedHawks tied the game in the first, they broke the game open with an eight-run third inning. Mike Hessman highlighted the rally with a grand slam for his first home run since opening night. Fernando Martinez and Brad Snyder each collected three hits, including a home run. Henry Sosa (2-0) earned his second straight win, tossing 6.2 innings and allowing five runs and eight hits. Round Rock starting pitcher Michael Kirkman (0-1) was bounced in the third and took the loss after allowing eight runs over 2.1 innings.
Tonight's Probable Pitchers-- Aneury Rodriguez will try and capture his first win since his season debut on April 6...He is coming off a rough outing last Saturday when he allowed six runs, seven hits, and four walks over a season-low 3.2 IP...Rodriguez is currently second in the PCL with 26 strikeouts, and his 12.8 K/9 rate is the best in the league among starting pitchers...However, Rodriguez has yet to go longer than five innings in a start and is averaging 21 pitches per inning...Round Rock lefty Martin Perez is also seeking his first win since April 6...He tossed six innings of one-run ball that night against Iowa, but since then he is 0-2 with a 4.96 ERA...Perez joined Round Rock in July of last season and posted a 6.43 ERA over 10 starts with the Express...A native of Venezuela, the 22-year-old Perez is considered the #2 prospect in the Rangers system by Baseball America .
Snyder Family Reunion-- Last night in the seventh inning, brothers Brad and Ben Snyder faced each other for the first time in any official game and for the first game at all since an intrasquad scrimmage in high school. Older brother Brad singled on a line drive to center field.
(Brad) Snyder Sizzling-- After getting off to a slow start and briefly being sidelined by a minor oblique injury, Brad Snyder has been a big catalyst for the RedHawks offense the last two games. He's gone 6-for-7 with three extra-base hits and three RBIs, raising his season average from .231 to .364.
Paredes Popping Off-- Jimmy Paredes has collected five multi-hit games and is hitting .400 (16-for-40) over his last nine contests. All six of his extra-base hits and five of his six RBIs for the year have occurred during this stretch. He is tied for the team lead with 23 hits.
Moore Offense-- Scott Moore is first in the PCL in on-base percentage (.540), second in slugging percentage (.708), and sixth in batting average (.396). He leads the team with seven multi-RBI games and is tied for the team lead with six multi-hit games. He's also been perfect in the field in 77 total chances.
Notable Streaks-- Jimmy Paredes has the longest current hitting streak on the team at seven games. Brett Wallace has also hit safely in six straight. After being held 0-for-3 last night, Round Rock's Joey Butler saw his 15-game hitting streak come to an end.
Bully For the Pen-- Over the RedHawks' last eight games, the bullpen has posted an impressive 1.24 ERA (4 ER/29.0 IP). During this run, they've surrendered just 24 hits with 32 strikeouts and 10 walks.
You Better Think Twice-- The RedHawks have done a good job limiting opposing teams on the basepaths. They've caught seven in 17 attempts for a 41.2% caught stealing rate, fourth-best in the league. Landon Powell has hosed out four of the five who've tried to steal against him.
DH Rule in Effect-- For the first time this season, the RedHawks will play a series with a designated hitter. Last season, the RedHawks were 18-28 in games using the DH rule. Next season when the Astros move to the American League West, all minor league affiliates will always use a DH.
Hello, Old Friends-- From 1983-2010, the Oklahoma City franchise was affiliated with the Texas Rangers. The franchise won three American Association titles with the Rangers (1985, 1992, 1996) and was a Rangers affiiliate when the team became the RedHawks and moved to Bricktown. Round Rock manager Bobby Jones posted a 595-552 record as RedHawks skipper and won five division titles in eight seasons. Four players on each team played on the other at some point when the affilations were the other way around.
Tough Division-- The American Southern Division is making an early case for toughest division this season in the PCL. It is the only division to have three teams with double digit wins (OKC, NO, ALB), and last place Round Rock has more wins (9) than any other team currently at the bottom of its division.
Against the Express-- Last season the RedHawks went 6-10 against Round Rock, who ran away with the division by 17 games...The RedHawks won just one of eight games at home, including losses in each of first six games...J.B. Shuck led the OKC offense, batting .396 against Express pitching...The next series is June 14-17 in Round Rock.
