LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
vs. Bridgeport (1/13: The Manchester Monarchs dropped their fourth consecutive game, a 4-2 loss to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. The Monarchs received goals from right wing Brandon Kozun and center Robbie Czarnik. The Sound Tigers tallied goals from left wing Tyler McNeely, center David Ullstrom and right wing Rhett Rakhshani (two). Monarchs netminder Jeff Zatkoff (10-6-1) took his sixth loss of the season stopping 34-of-37 shots. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones relieved Zatkoff for 42 seconds late in the third period. Bridgeport netminder Andrew Nilsson (6-6-1) earned his sixth win of the season making 16 saves on 18 shots. Manchester went 1-for-3 on the power play. Bridgeport was 1-for-7 with the man advantage.
@ Adirondack (1/14): The Manchester Monarchs losing streak was extended to five games with a 5-3 loss to the Adirondack Phantoms at the Glens Falls Civic Arena on Saturday night. The Monarchs scored goals by right wing Brandon Kozun, right wing Jordan Nolan and defenseman Thomas Hickey. Adirondack tallied goals from right wing Shane Harper, left wing Denis Hamel, defenseman Kevin Marshall, forward Eric Wellwood and center Ben Holstrom. Manchester netminder Martin Jones (11-11-1) took his 11th loss of the season stopping 24-of-29 shots. Monarchs netminder Jeff Zatkoff (10-6-1) relieved Jones for the third period and made two saves on two shots. Phantoms goaltender Michael Leighton (14-12-0) earned his 14th win of the season making 23 saves on 26 shots. Manchester went 1-for-4 on the power play. Adirondack was also 1-for-4 with the man advantage.
vs. Portland (1/15): Defenseman Nick Deslauriers scored his first professional goal, the lone goal for the Manchester Monarchs, as they dropped their sixth consecutive game, a 4-1 loss to the Portland Pirates at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday afternoon. The Pirates received goals from center Brock Trotter, right wing Patrick O'Sullivan, defenseman David Rundblad and an empty net goal from right wing Brett MacLean. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (10-7-1) took his seventh loss of the season stopping 19-of-22 shots. Netminder Curtis McElhinney made three saves on all three shots faced before he left the game with a lower body injury at 5:36 of the first period. Pirates goaltender Justin Pogge (6-5-3) earned his sixth win of the season making 25 saves on 26 shots. Manchester went 1-for-4 on the power play. Portland was 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Manchester Monarchs (21-18-0-2) dropped to third place in the Atlantic Division with three consecutive losses this week. The Monarchs have 44 points. The St. John's IceCaps (22-10-5-1) are in first place in the division with 50 points. The Worcester Sharks (19-11-3-4) rank second in the division with 45 points. The Portland Pirates (18-16-2-3) sit in fourth place in the division with 41 points. The Providence Bruins (17-20-1-3) are in fifth place in the division with 38 points.
At the Verizon Wireless Arena this season, Manchester owns a 12-8-0-1 record.
With a 5-3 loss on Saturday night to the Adirondack Phantoms, the Monarchs set a franchise record for consecutive losses at five (0-5-0-0). Manchester extended the streak to six straight losses (0-6-0-0) in a 4-1 loss to the Pirates on Sunday afternoon.
This season, the Monarchs are 15-4-0-2 in games that have been decided by one goal.
Manchester is 15-10-0-2 against Atlantic Division teams this season.
The Monarchs are 11-3-0-2 in games when they have led after the first period and 11-0-0-1 when leading after the second period.
When scoring first this season, the Monarchs are 15-5-0-2.
Manchester's 737 penalty minutes rank fifth in the league this season. The team is averaging 18.0 penalty minutes a game which ranks seventh in the league.
The Monarchs have been outshot in 28 of their 41 games and own a 14-13-0-1 record in those games.
Monarchs left wing Dwight King (7-17$) leads the team with 17 assists and 24 points. King had a three-game point streak (1-3=4) snapped on Sunday against the Pirates.
Center Marc-Andre Cliche (11-12=23) leads the team with 11 goals and ranks second with 23 points.
Cliche's three game-winning goals are tied with right wing Linden Vey (10-9=19) for most on the team and they are both tied for 16th place in the AHL.
Cliche is tied for third place on the team with a plus-5 rating.
Going a perfect 6-for-6 in the shootout, Cliche ranks first on the team and is tied for the best percentage in the AHL. Cliche's six shootout tallies are the most by any player in the AHL this season.
Right wing Brandon Kozun (10-11=21) ranks third on the Monarchs with 21 points.
Kozun had a three-game point streak (2-1=3) snapped in Sunday's loss to the Pirates.
Kozun is tied for eighth in the AHL with five first goals of the game.
Kozun is tied for second on the team with Vey for goals scored. They each have 10 goals.
Kozun's four power play goals lead the team.
Defenseman Patrick Mullen (5-14=19) leads Monarchs defensemen with five goals, 14 assists and 19 points this season.
Mullen's 19 points are also tied with Vey for fourth on the Monarchs.
Right wing Jordan Nolan (7-10=17) is ranked sixth on the Monarchs with 17 points.
Nolan has three points (1-2=3) in six games since returning from injury.
Nolan's 112 penalty minutes lead the Monarchs and is tied for seventh in the league.
Center Robbie Czarnik (5-10=15) ranks in seventh on the Monarchs with 15 points.
Czarnik tallied a goal and an assist on Friday night and recorded two assists on Saturday night for his first two multi-point games of the season.
Czarnik has five points (1-4=5) in his last three games. Czarnik was taken to the hospital during Sunday's game following a hit by defenseman Dean Arsene. Czarnik was released late Sunday night.
Defenseman Thomas Hickey (2-12=14) and center Andrei Loktionov (3-11=14) with are tied for eighth on the Monarchs 14 points each.
Hickey leads the Monarchs with a plus/minus rating of plus-10. Hickey was named to the Eastern Conference Team at the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic in Atlantic City, New Jersey on January 29-30.
Loktionov was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, November 14 and has recorded four points (0-4=4) and two penalty minutes in 25 games this season.
In 45 career games with the Kings, Loktionov has 11 points (4-7=11) and four penalty minutes.
Center Justin Azevedo (5-8=13) and defenseman David Kolomatis (4-9=13) are tied for 10th place on the Monarchs with 13 points each.
Defenseman Nick Deslauriers (1-6=7) tallied his first professional goal in a 4-1 loss on sunday afternoon, his 30th professional game.
Defenseman Slava Voynov (2-1=3) was recalled to the Kings on November 15. In 27 games with Los Angeles this season, Voynov has 11 points (4-7=11) and six penalty minutes.
Right wing Justin Johnson (1-1=2) is second on the team and is tied for 14th in the AHL with 101 penalty minutes.
Goaltender Martin Jones owns an 11-11-1 record, a 2.77 goals-against-average and a .915 save percentage in 24 games for the Monarchs this season.
Monarchs netminder Jeff Zatkoff has registered a record of 10-7-1, a 2.21 goals-against-average and a .930 save percentage in 21 games.
Zatkoff's 2.21 goals-against-average is tied for sixth in the AHL and his .930 save percentage is fourth best in the league.
Zatkoff's 3-1 shootout record ranks sixth in the AHL.
Zatkoff was named to the Eastern Conference Team at the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic in Atlantic City, New Jersey on January 29-30.

Max Piggy Bank - The Manchester Monarchs host the Worcester Sharks at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 28. The first 2,000 fans in attendance to the game will receive a Max Piggy Bank courtesy of St. Mary's Bank.
Pink In The Rink - The Monarchs Care Foundation and the Catholic Medical Center are once again teaming up to raise awareness and money in the fight against breast Cancer. Join the Monarchs when they host the Connecticut Whale at 7:00 p.m. on February 11 to support the cause. The night will feature pink ice and specialty pink jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game's conclusion.
