Oshawa Generals News Release
Oshawa, ON - October 5th, 2011 - The Oshawa Generals are pleased to announce that they have entered into a partnership with Expedite Plus which will see 100 tickets donated to local charities and disadvantaged youths in Durham Region at each and every Generals home game.
Expedite Plus is a company that specializes in same-day emergency shipping to locations all over the world operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and was built from the ground up by President and C.E.O. Victor Deschenes.
Deschenes, a Toronto native, started Expedite Plus over a quarter of a century ago and has turned the company into a multi-national organization with offices and staff all over the world.
His success has given Deschenes the opportunity to do something else he is very passionate about which is giving back to those less fortunate, something he does quietly.
Over the years, Deschenes has made donations to numerous charities and organizations, many to benefit children, including The Hospital for Sick Children, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Peel Partners for a Drug Free Community, the Mississauga Waterfront Festival and countless others.
"We are thrilled to be associated with someone who has given so generously to so many great causes over the years," said Generals VP of Business Operations Duncan Stauth. "From purchasing 85,000 tickets to Toronto Blue Jays games during the SARS crisis and selling those tickets for $2 and then donating that money to charity, to buying 500 bicycles at a time and giving them to children who couldn't afford them, or sponsoring 2,000 disadvantaged children through the Waterfront Festival, he does it all without wanting anything in return."
"His care for community makes him a true civic leader and a great man."
Deschenes has been given numerous awards for his business success but as well for his philanthropy including the Ontario Medal for Citizenship, one of the Province's highest honours, which he received in 2002.
