Belleville Bulls News Release
BELLEVILLE, ON -Belleville Bulls Head Coach and General Manager George Burnett announced a trade on Wednesday afternoon just hours before the team's matchup with the Oshawa Generals at the Yardmen Arena. In a deal with London Knights General Manager Mark Hunter, the Bulls have acquired defencemanJake Worrad in exchange for Oshawa's second round selection in 2012 and a conditional Belleville 15th round pick in 2013.
Worrad, a former second round selection by the Knights in 2009, comes to Belleville after missing significant time to a knee injury that hampered him early on in his rookie season with the Knights. Since then, Worrad has made his way back to the ice through stints with the St. Thomas Stars Jr. B program. The native of Birr, Ontario skated with the Knights in their first round series with the J. Ross Robertson Cup Champion Owen Sound Attack a year ago and has played in two contests to start the 2011-12 campaign.
"Jake is a young man who has overcome quite a bit of adversity in his junior career," said Burnett following the deal. "He'll bring skill and an elite stride to our backend. Jake makes a good first pass and has the ability to play in all three zones."
With the return of NHL prospectsJarred Tinordi andScott Harrington to the London blueline, Worrad will have the opportunity to log considerable minutes in Belleville.
Beaten up by injuries early on in the season, the move gives the Bulls more flexibility on the blueline. Worrad will be in the Belleville lineup on Saturday night when the team hosts the Kingston Frontenacs at the Yardmen.
